Using a sociological lens to view the historical development of healthcare in the United States, Paul Starr, Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at Princeton University, argues that we need to look at the structure of organization shaped in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by the medical profession to understand why this issue has been politically divisive for almost a century.
